Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the relapse pattern after dental camouflagic treatment of adolescent Class III malocclusion patients. Four patients diagnosed as skeletal Class III malocclusion (3 girls, 1 boy) were selected. The average ages before and after treatment were 12.9¡¾1.3 and 14.9¡¾1.2 years, and total treatment duration was 1.9¡¾0.7 years. Two cases of that had skeletal deepbite tendency and two cases had skeletal openbite tendency. The cephalometric radiographs and intraoral and extraoral photographs taken before treatment, after treatment and retention period were evaluated. The results of clinical and cephalometric evaluations were reviewed and factors that provide the clinician with a better understanding of treatment alternatives in adolescent patients with Class III malocclusion were discussed. In orthodontic treatment especially Class III patient, success or failure of the treatment was substantially dependent on growth potential. It was important to know the timing of the beginning of treatment and to select the appropriate treatment plan. In this study, we found that all of the cases showed mandibular growth, while maxilla were relatively stable. In two cases diagnosed as skeletal openbite, mandible were grown in downward and forward direction, resulting in shallow overbite. In two cases with skeletal deepbite, mandibles were grown in relatively forward direction, resulting in slightly lingual tipping of mandibular incisors.
